Broadening your horizons

The term broadening of horizons tells us to increase the range of knowledge, understanding, or experience. It helps us understand the world from a different perspective, a perspective that we never thought of. This phase of my life started when I was back in 12th class and preparing for the board exams. From the initial age, I have a strong interest in business, so during that time, when everyone was thinking about their future, I thought of joining my father's business and discontinue my studies. When I went with this thought to my father, he said one thing to me, which changed my whole life and made me stand where I am today in my life. "He said you are very young and you don't have to worry about the money. This is your time to go out, explore the world, get a good education, meet new people and after that, you can come anytime and join the business because it's not going anywhere and asked me to join the university."

So I went to Tamil Nadu to study, around 1400 miles away from my home and started a new phase of my life. In that four years of university, I made several friends and few close friends there with me from that point in time. We all had one thing in common that made us more closely with each other: the passion for traveling and visiting different cities. When we all used to talk, we came up with new and exciting ideas. After that, I went on my first international trip abroad for my internship and my love to travel. Then I started working on my startup for drone delivery. Although it was a failure, it gave me a lot of new experience and changed how I initially thought about startups. I was selected as top 100 startups for this startup and went to Istanbul, Turkey, to present several renowned investors and learn new things. I got engaged in several organizations and worked for university fest for four years and worked with almost more than 1500 people during my four years of university and made more than 500+ connections during that time. During my college, I decided to go for my master's as there was more to explore and learn, and I applied to several universities in the US. I got selected at NYU, Northeastern, and Syracuse University.

This was all made possible because of my father's advice of exploring the world and meeting new people. If it weren't for him, I would have been back in my town helping my father in the business. The lesson that I learned from this is to broaden your mindset, step out of your comfort zone, connect with new people, explore new things.
